My 68 W200 Donor Truck had a 60 rear, what would the front have been?

What would the be the purpose/ advantage of having a stronger front axel? special industrial application? railroad use?

you know, my 74 came with the 60 rear and 44hd front. drums all the way around. i'm sure there are a lot of variations out there for different trucks, but i'm pretty sure the standard in that era for 3/4 ton was 60/44hd unless ordered otherwise. either way, getting back to the subject at hand i am still interested in the truck for sale that originated this post...

The normal 200 series axle configuration was D60 rear, D44 front. The D70 rear, D60 front was normally used in one-ton applications. However Dodge offered 'Heavy 3/4 tons' which could have D60 front/D-60HD rear, or D60 front/D70 rear. Much more desireable with those big meaty axles!

The Dana 60 front didn't show up until '75.The D70 front was used mostly on W200 crewcabs as the 44 really wasn't heavy enough(I know I bent two 44's on my cc and I wasn't Bajaing).

That front rating is 3000 lbs, that would be the Dana 44F. You could also get a 3500 lb front rating that was still a 44F with a different spring pack.

You can end the mystery by looking at location 3 in this drawing:

I'm sitting here admiting/convincing my self that this 74 w200 is just perfect to go under the 73 d100 utiline forest service truck. Location, price, year, everythings right! I've been looking for this combo for a while. Two problems; #1 the wife would have me locked up or shot, if I brought another Mopar. #2 This hobby is almost becoming an obsession , the amount of time I spend going over this deal in my head is nuts. I'ts like I'm becoming a Power Wagon miser. Why can't I be satisfied with what I already have?

Buy this for yourself and buy something else for the wife. Then you can both be happy.

when the last truck m884 came home she said "why dont you buy a brand new Power Wagon and just get rid of all the others. I could not explain the cool factor of old trucks. besides anyone can buy something off the lot. If i were to sell the herd ,the money would go to a 1961 ffpw, which is older and uglier in her eyes.Theres something about the thrill of the chase with these trucks. Thankfully the kids love the old trucks.

Take her out 4 wheeling and let her drive. Maybe she'll catch Dodge Fever. You can get that virus from from touching the steering wheel you know. Or was it the transfer case lever....

YES, please put your location into your signature profile so people can see where you are located.
I wouldn't want to get all worked up over a great deal and then find out it's in New Zealand....= )

You can always wait 6 more years for another to pop up. You can't be
satisfied with what you currently own.... give into it man!! Come on!!....
360 4 spd?!?... what more does a guy need?!? Take the wife out for a
nice dinner & a movie.... she'll get over it. Take your obsession seriously....
