Design/Logo is printed on the back of the shirts and the front is free of any designs.
Most 1957 models had a paper vin tag , (don't ask me why), glued inside the glove box, very few of these tags survived for obvious reasons. If your glovebox is original check for gobs of glue remains up against the back of the box where the tag would have been. That could explain why he may have swapped in any vin tag to get it registered at the time. Good luck with the truck.....Kevin
The VIN should be, as other stated, on the frame stamped in it. However... there's about 50+ years of grease and gook on there, and mine (a '48) had half of it covered by some welded-on hunk of metal (snow blade bracket at one time?) so it might take you and some solvent and a wire brush a little while, but it's there... somewhere. (Like snowflakes...)
