    Robert Metcalfe-crew cab

Gordon, Seeing these photo's really brings back some good memories. One in particular, after seeing Robert Metcalfe's crew cab was the night we were all sitting under the tent at the fairgrounds and Debbie mentioned how ugly Roberts truck was. The poor guy was sitting right next to her and he never said a word---come to think of it, you baited her on!

What he was pulling resembled a water buffalo, but was his gas tank as the truck got only a few miles to a gallon.

It was a 426 Hemi. There was a big discussion about it after it appeared in Four Wheeler magazine. There were a lot of pictures of it shown in the magazine article with great descriptions of of the features, including the Hemi engine. But, not one picture of the engine made it to print.

It sold and again sold later but by then the Hemi had been removed and no power plant had been installed in its place.

I remember talking to Soni when he was at the Rally. He said he had been offered $5,000.00 for the engine alone. This was at the 5th Rally in 1992.

The first I ever saw of the truck was an appearance in a very early 1980's four wheel magazine. Soni had just moved to the U.S. from Switzerland (I believe) and he brought the truck with him. At the time it was yellow and looked nothing like the later military inspired appearance.

It actually started out as a Plymouth Trailduster.

I looked at that truck with a friend at the Manchester FD in about 1974.

That's Sonny Honeggers war wagon, powered by a 426 hemi with a 727 transmission. I believe it currently is running a diesel. Not sure of the year, although I do remember it was the same year the nice looking Power Wagon gal from New Mexico was there. I think her name was Louise.
