That bed is comprised of a lot of flat panels with some other construction details. I would urge you to look at fabricating one from steel. I think you would be happier in the long run.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

        spyoptic01,
What year is the truck you are working on? I decided to build my own bed for my 56 and had to fabricate the sculpted stake pockets from scratch because I cpould not find any decent pockets from other sources.
If you have the time and skills building your own bed is a great way to go, however if you can buy a new bed for 2000.00 that is a great option as well.

I should be stamping new beds this winter. There suppose to be +/- 5000ths to original specs they will be atleast 3000 on a pre deposit deal and 4000 thereafter. It cost a pile to build the tooling and one may never get it back?.

I do have a nice original rust free and nearly perfect 3rd series bed that i'll be selling for 2000 after it's used for measurement specs for the tooling. Thanks Matt

That is really neat to hear that you are planning to stamp out some 3rd series bed sides. Now all we need is some 2nd series bed sides along with some stamped pockets.

yes, i'm doing those also, but the pockets will have to be formed in halves and tig welded together in the middle. they will be identical but welded. the reason is it takes a progressive die to form the right and the return on the investment would never be.. i hope to do a write up on all this once the tooling is started. Please do that Matt, write the article and sent in to Gordon I hear he is looking for that type of content.
I would also l;ove to see how you make those pockets, I made mine out of three pieces.
