  • My new baby

Well, I decided I didn't have enough expensive habits so I picked up what I believe to be a WDX for a song ($4.5K).

Somebody has already cleaned it up quite a bit. No rust. Everything has been cleaned and painted (including underneath). Appears to be a hodgepodge collection of sorts.

Unfortunately, the serial tag is unreadable so I'm not sure what it is exactly. The block is a '57 Plymouth. The cab body tag places it at a '46-'47. No serial found on the frame (had frame repaired right in that area). I believe the bed and tail gate are the first series? The title is a little humorous... lists it as a '42. Not sure what the headlamps came off of but I think they look kinda cool with the white marker lights on top. Converted to 12v and electric start but everythign looks factory; must have just swamped it with parts from a 60's rig I guess?

Winch works amazing... my god that thing is dangerous. First thing I did was create a safety device that locks the Winch actuating arm in place on the floor. :)

Some dinglberry put a stinkin' sunroof in it. :/ Half the other glass is cracked but in place.

Runs and drives great. Brake master needs rebuilt.

Transfercase output shaft is rubs on body when there's enough weight in the cab. Haven't figured out what's not lined up right yet. :/

Well, I'm brand new to PW's so expect to hear a bunch of dumb questions from me. Would love to hear your thoughts on what you see.

    Welcome!

You are in the right place. Plan on taking more pics, we are inquisitive too!

You did good. Even if it's a hodgepodge (it ain't in my opinion), a non rusted complete running driving Power Wagon with a winch is a good score.

I agree that the sunroof is in poor taste, but other than that....

I see a great truck with great sheetmetal. A real steal at $4500.

Many of these trucks are rusted through in places that are hard to repair. Your fenders, cab, and bed sides look reasonably straight and rust free. It is definitely a 1st series bed as you thought.

The fact that you don't have to spend 800 hours on repairing sheetmetal makes it a beauty in my eyes.

Welcome to the forums. No question is a dumb question. We have all been there.

        Welcome!!
        Nice Find!
The headlights with the integrated park lamps were used on forties Mack, Peterbilt,Reo,and others. There in high demand by the hot rodders.
I know I'm currently watching for a decent set for our 49 LF Mack.
Some "sob" needed them more than I.

Anyway truck looks like it has a lot of potential, to make a nice driver, work horse.

You'll appreciate those mirrors- the originals vibrate enough to give you multiple images at speed- just like a Harley. The non-directional tires do exactly that in the rain on tarred roads, hydroplane really easily. A disc brake upgrade up front with a dual-circuit master is an excellent idea if you plan on driving in traffic. If the brake drums need work, they need to be turned on the hub they're mounted on, and you need to be sure the minimum amount is taken off- too big, too bad- they're not available NOS anymore.

            Truck year

I think its an early 1946. I noticed the small tab on the bed side before the spare tire. The only year that I know was an early '46.

            What state are you in?

              Very Nice, and Congratulations!
              I drive a DODGE, not a ram!

              Thanks,
