  • 'Correct' license plate for a 1946?

So, I'm trying to understand what the 'correct' license plate would be for a 1946 WDX in Washington State.

From the data explored here I've learned that:
    - From 1943 through 1950 there basically weren't any metal plates (with few exceptions) due to the war
    - From '43-'50 your license plate was a window sticker
    - It also notes that in 1944 the correct licensing would be the use of a 1942 plate, along with a 1944 window sticker

My question is, was that the same procedure up though 1950 and therefore my '46 would have the same? ... or was there a point where buying a new 1946 vehicle would mean you only had a window sticker and no license plate at all (and if so, what year would they have started handing out metal plates?)

    Nevermind...

After some more research, sites like this make it pretty clear that "correct" for '46 is a '45 plate with window sticker.

If the vehicle wasn't sold until '47 then it would have a '47 plate.

Finding Historically Correct Truck License Plates - Washington, USA and more...

<Forum Admin - feel free to delete my two previous posts in this thread as they are incorrect>

It's important to note that none of the published information I found on the internet turned out to be correct in terms of 'Truck' plates for Washington State so it was important to contact license plate collectors for accurate information.

Apparently, during the years surrounding the war, Washington State 'Truck' plates vs. 'Passenger' plates had dramatically different production runs and lettering codes. Most States had similar discrepancies.

Specifically for 1946 Washington State truck plates:
      • Washington did not offer Passenger plates in 1946. Passenger cars utilized a '45 plate with a '46 windshield sticker
      • Washington DID offer Truck plates in 1946, green letters on a white plate
      • The Truck plates all started with a large T, followed by the county code in smaller letters
      • This is not to be confused with the Trailer plates which had a large TL

Thanks to those who helped set me straight. Specifically:
The most authoritative list of license plate subject matter expert contact info I found is below. It not only lists subject matter experts for license plates by State, but also for countries and regions world wide.

        Old license plates

I found some plates that were being used as knot hole covers in an old barn. They are from the thirties. Pretty bad shape, too. Anyone know a place that restores these things?

          Chewie,
Somewhere in my files I think I have a name for a guy who does this thing on the side, but am not sure.
However, I found this on the internet, might be worth a call to them.
