  • Gauge of sheetmetal

I am planing on doing some sheet metal repair. I need to know the gauge of sheet metal for the floor pans, running boards, fenders, and also the cab(someone cut a perfect hole two thirds up on the cab to the right of the drivers side door) THank You

Get both 16ga & 14ga, you'll use some of each, the thickness on the cab can vary due to the way the metal was formed, your floor pans & running boards Should be 16ga but some places on the cab & fenders can be as thick as 14ga. For Butt-welding thin sheet metal I find it helps to back the area to be welded with some heavy copper buss-bar. This allows me to turn up the juice on my welder for good penetration with out blowing holes in the sheet metal.

    Keep Hammering!

      Klemm,
      Jens has some good suggestions.
On my '52, the floor was 14 gauge, and the rest of the cab was closer to 16 gauge.
I posted on another thread about recreating the corrugations in the floor pan using heat and sections of pipe.

          Docdave ,
I love the home made swage block & forming die set, proving once again, tools don't make a man , a man makes the tools ;) well done sir.

            Thank you,
I got the general idea from a video I watched several years ago on sheet metal work made by two older guys.
