  • spring shackle pin removal

Anybody got a nifty trick for getting the pins out of the spring shackles on a 58 PW?

  • #2
    Make a puller from
3/8 fine thread bolt, heavy washer a large nut or better, heavy pipe with the inside diameter just big enough for the pin to pass through.
Remove grease zerk, center pipe over pin, install bolt in zerk hole with washer and tighten.
Make sure the locking bolt is removed, jack spring pack up or down to find the "sweet" spot in the pin.

The zerk fitting is a pipe thread. Using a standard bolt thread may damage the threads in the pin. You can make the puller by welding a proper sized zerk fitting into a piece of pipe as the primary part of your fabricated puller.

A 1/8" NPT (pipe thread) cut onto a piece of cold rolled rod makes a great pulling tool. Cut a regular machine thread on the other end and use a slide hammer puller. Makes quick work of pin pulling.

Sure is a vast amount of information to be had from the powerwagon family. I know I have learned a lot. John

My Bad for not mentioning the fitting hole is pipe thread.
However I don't worry about the thread when I pull the pin for bushing replacement because the pin will be replaced also.
More times than not there worn beyond useable limits anyway.
A proper puller would be as Charles mentioned.
                Sorry for the misinformation.
