Olgraybeard's truck in one of the posts above is very nice looking. Mine was cut down, not only in length, but in width and the makeshift fenders are really lame looking.
If my bed were near as nice as the one on his truck, I would probably leave it on there.
Since it's not, and it would be way too much work for what it's worth, it's gone.

The WDX is getting closer to being painted. This winter I re-wired it, converted to 12 volt with alternator, cleaned it up a lot, and added this gas tank from an early Chevy PU.

What was the original application of that tank? It fits pretty good.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

The guy I bought it from said it was out of an early '90s Suburban but the NAPA book showed it was more likely a pickup of the same vintage. Yes, it almost was a perfect fit. I had to remove the original rear support and place a piece of 2" x 1" rectangular tubing cross way between the rear frame and remove the original front support, turn it end for end, re-drill for the brake line splitter, and it was done.

              bed

Those beds appear to have come off of a WWII ford gtb or chevy 1 1/2 ton, I have a restored gtb, the beds were probably surplussed after the war. if it helps, most of those beds were built by a company called Budd
The one on the camo pw is definately a modified Budd, same wheelwells and all.

Could be, if it was shortend in width and length plus lowered.

But I think that would be a lot of work + a lot of these vechicles was bought by the danish army in the 60's.

Were those beds made in USA?

Here is a few pictures of my wm300 from 1970, one of the few still in Denmark ;-)

The bed looks better in it's original form than the one I had that was cut to make it narrower and shorter. I might have used it if it had still been original. Looks like it would make a good dump truck.

                    bed

The Danish bed was definately built for a powerwagon chassis, the other two shown with the wheelwells appear to be modified wwII truck beds. Budd is an american company, it's actually the same manufacturer who made the wheels for most of these trucks.

I don't believe the bed is from a danish military truck either.

I found the old report from the danish army regarding the purchase of the powerwagon in the beginning of the 1960's. They bought approx. 600 powerwagons (m601 & wm300 afaik) from 1961 and onward.

They were bought and shipped to Denmark bare and built to their purpose (radio command, ambulance, troops carrier etc.) and therefore I think the beds was maybe built in Denmark?

As I understand, the danish powerwagons was sold on auktions when taken out of service and finally the last batch was given to Lithuania in 1994 because of lack of spareparts.

I've also heard rumours about a company exporting old danish powerwagons to the US in the 1990's?

Which most likely means that a danish bed would end up in the US much to late to be installed on a 1946 towtruck.
