    what is the pinion bearing preload specification on the 9.625 differential. i am in the process of changing gear ratios from a 5.83 to 4.89 gears and i am installing new bearings. right now i am in the mock up stage.

    this is in a 57 power wagon. it has three pinion bearings.

      If you are using all new bearings, the pinion bearing preload is best at 20 - 25 in.lbs. Should be measured with the center bearing cone held off (held out of contact with) its cup. The preload setting is between the inner and outer pinion bearings only.

        9.625

        thank you for the information. this is the first one of these i have rebuilt. i am used to the ford 9inch and other half ton stuff. i am sure i will have other questions but this will do for now.
