  • Fenders & Runningboards

I'm nearing the point at which I will be painting my 67' WM300 .
Is it permissable (wrong word perhaps) to paint the fenders and runningboards black?
I have been told that most later WM's were mono-chromatic.
The previous color was red owing to it's F.D. brushtruck history but fenders and wheels were all red as well. I put this down more to the F.D. association than mfg. practice.
Any thoughts , or more to the point facts?

Bob you paint it however you want. It's your truck.
But I do believe the fenders and running boards were always black unless special ordered, utility, fire, etc.

Here's a color list that some of us helped to put together,
To the best of our knowledge.

      Thankyou Tom,
I hoped that you or Clint would chime in . I guess I was misinformed about the mono-chromatic color schemes of the late sixties.
I plan to paint it a blue similar to Marty's rig that had the 20" wheels. Although it would be helpful to know what shade of blue was used in that year.
      Thanks again.

Bob, I have a 67 WM300 also. It definitely came from the factory with body colored fenders, inside and out. What I am NOT sure about is what color the splash shields under the fenders were painted.

I once saw a red 1968 WM300, which had the body colored fenders, but the underside and splash shields were flat black, as was the dashboard. The owner said this was the way it was originally built.

The late WMs are fairly rare and most customers were fleets. Like most truck manufacturers, Dodge built them in any color the customer wanted, in addition to the standard colors. I don't know whether black fenders were standard or optional...it may vary with the year. I do think either is "correct," however.

I am working on my truck now and keeping it the original dark green with green fenders, but just because I like it that way.

              From the archives

Here are a few pages from a 1968 Dodge pickup brochure. Both show the WM300 with body-colored fenders. The WM was a bit of an anachronism, even back in 1968!
