I have to "straighten" one of my driver's side front spring U-bolts. It will require heat to do so. I would guess that would take the temper out of it and it will need to be heat treated afterwards. Does anybody have any experience with this? I've called around Houston and everybody I've talked to is reluctant to deal with it. Is there a business out there, anywhere, who can do this for me and then properly heat treat the thing? The easy way out is to find a replacement U-bolt, but I've been unsuccessful locating another one in good shape. It measures 9 1/4+ inches end-to-end. Thanks!.........Keith.

We have a local spring works company here that can make them up any size you need for what is really a nominal fee. I wouldnt rely on a repaired u-bolt personally. Since you will be taking the tension off of the other one it is probably a good idea to replace its mate at the same time you replace the bent one. This way you ensure they both get the proper torque.

Keith,
What you have been given is sound advice, especially from a safety standpoint.
The only thing I would mention is that the made up new U bolts will look slightly different from the originals. To some people that would be an issue, some not.
The originals had sort of a "shape" to the shoulder of the U bolt. But they are getting harder to find in NOS shape.
