  • Cowl Drain Tube

The rainy season has arrived in Alaska and I've learned my 61 is leaking. I found out one reason and that's because I don't have a cowl weatherstripping so I will call VPW tomorrow and correct that.

My question (and I've searched the site for an answer) is the cowl drain tube. Mine drains behind the dash like it is supposed to, but it drains onto my inside floor boards. Should it drain there? If it's supposed to I guess I'll extend it and run it through the floor and outside. Anyone else have to work this problem? Installing the weather strip should help resolve much of the water (I had about a half cup on the floor today), but I also don't want any causing rust problems.

Why do some folks have a PW restored and not ensure things like this are done right? This is around the 4th simple thing the previous owner didn't do and didn't disclose not to mention some of the stupid stuff (in my opinion) he had done that I'm redoing. Each to their own...

I believe you would find it should drain through a hole in the firewall.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

Thanks, Gordon. Yes, it was there, but I only had enough time between meetings to look at the inside firewall when I was home for 20 minutes. When I finally got home again I popped the hood and there was the hole.

Problem was whoever installed the interior insulation kit (overall nice job) failed to cut the hole and push the tube through. So, I cut the hole which was tough to manage without someone pushing back on the material from the inside, but I got it done...in the pouring rain.

Do you still want an article on buying a PW long distance? If so, I think I have some time this weekend to draft it. They're calling for rain the next six days.
