  • Wiper motor cover

Has anybody replaced their wiper motor cover? (If that is what you call it)
I know a lot of people get mice up there and then they rust through, but mine is REALLY bad. Its all the way through to the left wiper motor access hole. There is almost no point in putting the access cover on.

I imagine it is a very hard piece to replace, but when I searched the archive, I didn't come up with anything. Do you guys just tolerate the hole??? If not, how do you fix it?

Any thoughts or advice are welcome.

    Thanks,

    Munsk.

You should be able to acquire a cover. Put an ad in the parts for sale and wanted forum. Also, send me an ad for the magazine using the contact us link below. Be sure to include area code and phone.

There should be plenty of them out there. The cover from the 39-47 2-wheel drive cab should fit, also.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

There are a LOT of them out there. Unless they rusted because of a mouse nest, or because of a water leak in the cab seam, most survived in fairly decent shape. I have seen nice ones in cabs that were otherwise rusted beyond repair.

I used to buy them for $5.00 to $10.00 dollars each when I was trying to collect one of each color. Now, they are regularly listed on ebay. Make sure you are sitting down if you search there. For some reason or another, the sellers of late think they are worth their weight in gold.

So you guys are talking about the actual one piece shroud right? Not just the removeable access covers??? I didn't know they came out. Do they bolt in? Or are they something that I will have to cut out?

        Thanks.

I thought you were talking about the removable access covers. Sorry, my mistake. I think what you are referring to is the cowl. They are spot welded in place. I am sure someone has replaced one and will weigh in here.

Yea sounds like he's after the header cover that the small panels bolt to, the one that houses the wipers and windshield hinges.

I've seen post where folks have cut the welds and replaced it, but finding one, well you will likely have to catch someone crapping a body.

Yeah, the cowl is rusted though... I figured it would be hard to replace.
              Thanks,

It's really an easy thing to replace take your windshield frame out then you will be able to see all the spot welds that hold it on the cab then there is a small one inch weld on each a-pillar just drill the spots and cut the inchers and it'll pop right off then you need to find a donor cab to get a good header panel out of any dodge truck from 1939 thru 1947 will have the same header from half ton to one and half ton just make sure you take lots of measurements before you do any cutting so you get the replacement in the right Place
