  • sodium filled or stellite? your suggestions.

My '67 WM300 251 engine is at Jasper ready for a full remanufactture. It came in to them with stellite valve stems. Should I go with replacing these with original sodium filled, or replace with stellite. Pros/cons? Your suggestions and thoughts welcomed. They want to know asap, and I will have to provide the sodiums if I go that route. Thanks.

The stellite material resists wear, the sodium filled valve conducts heat away from the head of the valve much better. It is a bit of an apples/oranges thing.

Given the choice, I believe I would go with the stellite.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

Good point. Jasper is fitting hardened valve inserts so it makes sense to match the hardness. Thanks.
