  • Power Wagon on eBay

I am still in the learning process of knowing what to look for in these vehicles and I would hoping that I could get some input on how good or bad this particular PW on ebay is.

(hopefully posting the ebay link doesn't violate any rules on this forum)

No, it is not violating any rules.

That is a pretty good looking truck.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

After comparing the photos to my 61, it appears that this could be a 9' bed and the rear fenders don't look original. But, I'm still a new guy.

You don't say where you live, but depending on that, transportation could be anywhere from $1000 on up, unless you can go get it yourself. Even then, there are costs involved.

I live up in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada.
I haven't been able to locate any FFPW for sale so I am expecting that I will have to pay transportation costs.

I am new to the Power Wagon scene so I don't know what it a good deal and what kind of things to look out for on these trucks. I also want to learn what year/parts are compatible to aid in any parts sourcing.
So I ask a lot of questions and read a lot online. (It was a lot easier restoring my Ramcharger since there were only 2 body versions and mine was only produced for 6 years)

But for something that I would have to buy sight unseen and the lack of knowledge that I have at this time I would have to say that the price on this truck has exceeded my comfort zone.

They always seem like they are everywhere but where you are. I'm surprised they way they turn up and where.
You need to decide if you want to spend $15 or 20k up front for a truck that's had most or all the work done, or spend roughly the same for a truck that needs all the work done. Have you made that decision yet?
It's all relative to how much you can do with body work, paint and mechanical or if you want to pay for what someone else has done..

I have kinda sorta made that decision. :)
My preference is to find a truck that needs the work so my initial investment would be lower and I could spend the $20k over 2-3 years. I am somewhat handy and have done a couple of restorations with some assistance from engine builders and body shops (see my Ramcharger)
I think that my main requirements would be to have a complete body with a frame that may or may not have all of the drivetrain. Depending on what parts I have to start with will determine if the project becomes a restoration or a restomod.

you should be able to come up with one local , problem will be that most will have been used hard and put away wet . Start looking at the farm auctions in the provinces to the west of you as well .
Seen a few dodge trucks in the farm auctions . You could pick up a cab or a decent box before you even got the truck , not the worst approach because you will not be all that desperate for the parts and will not pay too much .

                  Thanks for the tips Bruce.
Since you brought it up... what years are the cabs compatible?

And can a non-PW cab be used?
There is a '41 Doge 2 ton with a cab that looks alright. Is this cab interchangeable with PW of certain years?

                  Thanks.

                    Joe,

I own a restored 61 WM300 and a project 50 B-2. The 61 was mostly restored when I bought it, but I've had to correct quite a bit of poor work and tweaked some things over the last year. I wrote a 2-part article for the Power Wagon Advertiser magazine, Dec 2011 and Jan 2012 issues. You might consider ordering these issues from Gordon if you don't have them. I learned a lot buying a PW long distance and looked for many months across the U.S. I wrote the articles so other new guys might learn something from my experience.

I found the 1950 about two weeks after I bought the 61. It had been sitting in a field in a pretty remote area of Alaska and I got a great deal on it. I purchased it for my 2-year grandson so him, my son and I can restore it over many years.

Good luck with the search. Many of the folks on these forums have been looking for a long time for the truck they want. My advice is it takes a lot of patience, and never hesitate to ask questions on this and Joe Cimoch's blog.
