  • Finally got it on the road! 67 WM300

Bought it Sept 9, 2011. Body work (getting the express bed back on and painted) and Jasper re-manufactured engine is in and working. Truck was overheating; head gasket fault and timing and carb settings have it running well.

Please check out the test drive on www.flyingtigertransport.com in the News section.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

Looks good...Nice work! I've only started my resto and can appreciate all those who have seen in through. What great satisfaction it must be!

I watched your video. Was fun to watch. These trucks take some getting used to in some ways, as you found out while driving it. One thing I thought I'd mention is that you probably don't need to take off in first. In my '49, I usually take off in 2nd, and that's with a smaller engine and 4.89 differential gears. It doesn't seem to bother it. If yours has the 5.83 gears, it should be even better, especially since you have the bigger engine. Something funny I saw is that the camera tends to distort the image a little, so that the vertical divider in the windshield looks it's bending severely at times, making the glass and divider look they are made out of really flexible rubber, ha, ha! That was entertaining.

On your webpage you mention that you retrofitted the truck with a propane system. Is there a kit you (or your mechanic) used? I've heard that engines run on propane are immaculate when disassembled. Makes me think it's better for them than gasoline.

Beautiful truck. I really enjoyed the video. Thanks for putting it up for us to see. Driving it around now, kind of makes up for all the troubles you had getting it to this point doesn't it?

              Nice job!
You had a lot of patience to get through the engine saga.
I big sense of accomplishment I am sure, I had that feeling too in 2010 with my truck being completed.

Thanks for your congrats and words of encouragement. Yes, it was worth it, but at times I was worried it would never get completed - still has a ways to go with the finishing touches.

I'm thinking of taking a poll on how many times I missed 2nd! Didn't occur to me to start out in 2nd! Also, I know it runs well in 4 wheel drive, cause if you look closely you will see the levers in the high/ft+rear setting. Wished I had noticed that before the drive! But now at least I know the unit runs well in the 4 wheel setting (the ft hubs were unlocked).

                So much for pre-flight check!

Please keep checking back with the flyingtigertransport.com site for updates and more documentation.

I'm rebuilding the door cylinder now; major re-wiring starts on the weekend.
