  • Can a dual master cylinder swap for a single?

Was looking through the VPW catalog the other day for a new master cylinder for my B-3 and noticed that the later models take a duel resevoir.

Not familiar with a later model and their pedals etc. Is a duel MC a direct or easy swap or were there a bunch of different changes to accomplish that?

    Check this out.
See the brakes section, he shows how he modded the bracket to take the later dual reservoir master cylinder.

Cool. That sounded pretty easy. Just used an adaptor plate. Wonder if he had to adjust the shaft any? Guess there is enough play in there that he could tilt/level the MC without anything binding.

So guess the later model MC isn't a direct swap?

No, the later (dual) master cylinder is not a direct swap for the earlier (single reservoir) cylinder. I seem to recall that there is a series of linkages, etc, that connect the pedal to the later master cylinder, and I don't think it even mounts in the same location as the earlier part.

          Thanks.

I talked to the fellow Doc Dave referenced and his set up is still working. Thats about 10 years ago.

I e-mailed Ken and asked him if he notices any difference between the dual master cylinder setup and the original setup, and he said he never drove a Power Wagon with an original setup, so he can't compare. But he said the dual setup does seem to work well. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my '49.

It would definately be a lot safer and that would make me feel better going down the road. Having a line fail is a horrible feeling.

If all it takes is a little plate with some drilling and welding thats pretty easy.
