  • 1961 WM-300 Coil Question

Just trying to vertify that a Napa/Echlin IC14 is the proper coil for a 1961 WM-300, 251 engine. Napa's computer index only went as far as the W300M, 230 engine. Thanks.....Keith.

The 230 and 251 engine share the same coil.

I'm not familiar with that part number or a big fan of Coils with the resistor built in.
Do you know if that coil requires a external resistor or not?

Some people have used coils with resistors built in with no problems.

I just prefer to have a separate external resistor.

Check and see if the counter man can tell you if it requires or has a resistor.
If he say's it needs a resistor you're good, if not, tell him you want the one that does, or remove your ballast resistor and try it.

I purchased a coil this past summer. The part number for what I got was:

Standard UC-12T. This crosses with Echlin 1C-10 and

NAPA MPE IC14SB "12 Volts w/o External Resister."

I realize that this is an older thread...hopefully some body can use this information in the future!

        The UC-12T fit perfectly.
