  • Differential question

I am looking for any possible issues that might come up if I do a differential swap. Is it ok to swap front and rear differentials? Move the front to the rear and rear to the front. Looking it over none are coming to mind.

Reason I ask is I am going thru the axles right now and while the front differential is in great shape the rear is not so much. I plan on fixing up the rear diff to an acceptable state but it will never be as nice as the front one is right now. Since the rear is going to take most of the daily use I want to put the best diff there and leave the other for the front.

    Thoughts?

Dutch, The front and rear differentials in the civilian Power Wagon are the

    same.

Generally speaking you have either the 5.83 or the 4.89 gear ratios.

Check at first to make sure you have the same ratios between the two. Other

than that there are no problems in swapping from front to rear.

Life is easier in a lower gear.
