  • Oil pick up tube

Before I go breaking something, can someone tell me how the oil pick up tube is connected to the engine block on a 230? Is it pressed in or does it screw in?

Mine is pretty stubborn and I don't want to break it. My machinist tell me its got to come out to get the boring done.

    It is threaded in.

I kind of thought it was threaded but wanted to make sure. It took some doing and a little heat to make it break loose but its out now. It was a stubborn little thing.
Thanks again CD for confirming that it was threaded.

I need to start a thread soon on my progress to date and post some pics. Just been too busy lately.

Most welcome. While you have the pickup tube out, if you already have not done so, separate the screen housing from the tube and clean it thoroughly.
Use a new cotter key when you re-install.

            Yes, I planned on it.
I was amazed how much gunk had accumulated in this engine, not just in the oil pan but the water passages too. I flushed out so much junk, it was unreal. I think that the only reason it didn't overheat and freeze up was the fact it was so sloppy in wear. Well, that's all getting corrected now.
