UK owner needing Assistance

I am a new owner of a 1952 Power Wagon in the UK.

To operate on UK roads I need to register the vehicle with our DVLA.


The DVLA advised me that I need the manufacturer or an owners club to formally authenticate in writing that the vehicle was manufactured in 1952.

I have the chassis serial number and the US Lien documents for its sale and export, the original Californian licence plate but no American title documentation.

I have tried the US equiv. of our DVLA but the US registration is so old there is no record of it online.

Can you guys advise me please who can complete this this letter for me?

Will they accept the Manufactured build card as proof? Chrysler Historical Services - Build Records

Got to be worth asking, the time delay for them to respond of 4-6 weeks just adds to the project.

They state the records are available for :-

• Trucks (1930-1954)
• There are no code sheets for Dodge Trucks.

Only a build card is provided.

Not sure what the code sheet is, need to read up more.

I will fill in the request and send a cheque and see what happens.

Is there no Dodge Owners Club in the States?

Well, satisfying a bureaucracy is always a challenging endeavor, and who knows what that little person behind the counter will accept or not.

However, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) should self authenticate the vehicle's year of manufacture. The VIN number can be found on the data plate typically mounted on the driver's side door frame. It is also stamped on the frame, left side front.

Check the VIN on the T137.com site for the year of manufacture. I will include a link to that site below.

Aha... yes been there.... got that 'T' shirt.

The DVLA authority requires authoritative and original proof from the ... quote ' the manufacturer or owners club .... ' to be accepted.

No amount of printed sheets off the Internet that could be verified by looking on the provided web sites is acceptable.

After all what can you believe on the Web these days.

I have contacted two of the UK 'American Car Clubs' but received little constructive response so far, I will persist after all that's what we do I guess.

Welcome to the club!
I think the build card may be a good bet for you,
as it proves that the vehicle with that specific VIN was made, and when.
It also gives very intriguing information. Fot example I discovered what the original options were on my truck, and that it was shipped on part of its destination by boat across the Great Lakes.
Kevin Claus on the Forum helped me decipher it.

On our trucks the wheels, winch, transfer case, engine and transmission all have the date code on them. Any chance they would accept that?

Yes you are correct all the main items are date marked, not sure about the wheels did not know they were marked, but the answer is no they will not accept pictures of the date stamp as evidence.


However, I may have a solution. I have contacted the American Auto Club of Great Britain and they have agreed to review the photos and documentation and provide written evidence of year of manufacture based on their library of documents and books on the subject.

With this authoritative signed document from an approved source I have a chance of registration.

In addition as recommended by you guys I will apply for the Build Schedule and hold that as a trump card in case there are further questions.

Sorry do you guys understand Trump Card? of course you do you have him.....

Project Progress

Thought I would update you guys on the current build position.

With the assistance of the Classic American Automobile Owners Club of GB I was able to register the truck for the UK roads.

Just some final tweaking to do before it's fully road worthy and a further 3 months before is close to finished, to my satisfaction anyway.

Personally I found the truck way easier to handle than I thought it would be, should be easier to handle round local traffic and country lanes and be much more fun now I have actually had the experience of driving it.
