Building a 53 PW, changing engine,trans,and rears but leaving stock springs,steering,and body. I want an old pw but be able to drive and pull once in a while. NO air,NO power steering,NO creature comforts, just an old truck to play with.
Don`t know how to post pics here. The engine is gonna be a bigblock chevy 496 hydraulic roller cam on pump gas, I bought a Reid Racing blowproof turbo 400 case and sent it to TCI transmissions to get built and it will be bolted to a NP205 transfer case. From military surplus I bought new in crate CUCV rears, (front dana 60 and 14 bolt rear with detroit locker]. The front axle set right on the pins no problem and my buddy machined me a stock style ball to thread into the Dodge D60 steering arm. I moved the spring perches out on the rear to fit. I`m using drive plates on everything instead of yokes and bought 2 1/2 drive shafts with 1410 joints to put it all together.
I had a 48 pw with 440 727 and centered rear years ago but i moved the steering box to do it and I don`t want to cut this truck.
I also have a 77 and 78 W400 ex Pierce fire trucks with 440s, a 91 W150 with 440 and 1 tons, and my everyday beater 84 W350 with 440 4spd and Chevy CUCV 4.56 rears.

If you decide to upgrade your oil/water/fuel/amp gauges please let me know. The grey faced ones were only made for four years and are hard to come across in working condition.

Clean fingernails, free weekends, intact knuckles and financial stability are totally overrated.
Sounds like it is going to be a great project, trust the guys on here as far as advice goes. They wont steer you wrong and have decades worth of Power Wagon Knowledge.
