  • 5.50x16 Rims

Hi Guys Wondering if anyone knows if you can run the 9:00 tire on the 5:50 rim instead of the 6:50 rim?

Some have, so it can be done. However, it is not done safely. The tire and wheel are made to be a matched set. For the sake of your life, and much more the lives of others who may unwittingly be standing near the vehicle, I strongly encourage you to get the correct wheel to match the tire.

    Be safe. Have fun.

OK Thanks John Looking into it further I found that the lock ring is NOT nearly as tall on a 5.50 rim compared to the 6.50 rim. I checked both types of my rims and sure enough the 5.50 lock ring is MUCH lower on the side wall of the tire!
I see sooo many guys running the 11.00 tire on a 6.50 rim for the 9.00 tire it can get confusing but since the 6.50 rim has a MUCH taller lock ring it is Ok to run the 11.00 tire on them. Thanks again John

        Happy to help.
Paul Cook on the texaspowerwagon.com site has some good information that may help explain things.
