  • 49 Rebuild Help - Were do these parts go??

As mentioned in other threads I have completed my running rolling chassis and am now dry fitting all the body parts. I got this truck 6 years ago and was mostly disassembled with many parts in boxes. I have found were everything goes except these two parts (2) of each. 1 set is an angle iron approx 10" long ea w 3 holes on ea flange (Photo downloaded weard approx 2x2 angle 10" long) . The other set are flat iron with a 45 deg bend at both ends approx 25 1/2" long w a hole at ea end and one at center. Can someone help identify the location of these? any photos of where and how installed would be great. I have also included a photo of what I have dry fitted so far.

    Thanks

The truck looks fantastic, as far as the 3 brackets I am truly shaking my head I cannot place them at all. I will do a walk around tomorrow and see if I can place them. As I recall your truck came with a flatbed is that right? Possibly brackets for something on the bed?

Matthew, thanks for your help. The truck came with a disassembled truck bed of miss matched pieces that were pretty beat up so I was considering going with a flat bed. Not sure if it was originally a flat bed. It did have a front boom that came with it (with brackets attached to front bumper for the boom) and I think it may of been a truck used by a telephone company. The boom is approx 10+ feet long. I replaced the front bumpers with new from VPW since they were beat up and I was not going to use the boom. Thanks again for looking into this for me. ps: I do not think these pieces went with the boom assembly.

Also, you will see in the last photo that the truck came with the wrong badges on both sides of hood and front radiator. Sure would like to find some OEM ones (or re-manufactured) at a reasonable cost. Have found re-manufactured ones for $750.00 a set, does anyone know of a better deal than this?

I think I found where the parts go in my original post, it looks like they were to support the running boards since the truck did not have rear fenders to attach to. But now, I found three more parts (2 look to be same but opposite hand). the 2 OH look to be body parts and the other was painted black and does not look like a frame piece? Below are pics. Any help would be appreciated.

Tex, the 2 parts on the right go on either side of your grill. They are a grill trim piece. The part on the left I believe mounts under your dash on the left hand side and holds the control knobs and cables for your heater.

Thanks Matt, I will go down to the garage and see if I can find the mounting hole locations and yes I do have the heater option (in fact, waiting for my new 12v heater fan to arrive).

So went down to garage and they all went where you said. I should of caught the front grill covers but would never of found the heater control since it was set about 1 1/2" back from face of dash on drivers side. Thanks again

                Heter Control Pod Bracket

You might look around to see if you still have the bracket that mounts the heater control pod.

So is this in addition to the heater control pod as shown on left in photo on Post 5? I think there was a bracket under dash, left of steering wheel that the pod bolted too. The things I don't have are the controls themselves nor do I know how it all hooks up. I have a new wiring harness that has yet been installed (the frame harness has but not dash or dash to frame).

                    Bracket

Sounds like you still have the bracket! Here is an older picture of a friends truck. You can see how the bracket moves the control pod back so the knobs are flush. Typically there is a heater fan control knob and if you are lucky a cable that opens and closes the small door on the heater to handle defrost.

You will see in this picture somebody added an aftermarket rheostat heater fan control (red knob) which is typical with our trucks. Original switch is simply low/high but the rheostat is infinitely variable. Just doesn't look as nice.

By the way, you do spectacular work. What a nice looking truck!

Thanks 53Crusher, I've was out all day at an International Trap (Bunker) competition so will have a look tomorrow at it. Now all I have to do is find the heater and defrost cables and nobs and the plumbing for the defrost. I can not hook anything up yet since I have yet installed the new wiring harness (not looking forward to that) and have not received the 12v heater fan motor.

Although this may need to be a new thread, I may be looking for help when wiring up the truck. I have already ran the wires down the frame and across to passenger headlight but have allot of unconnected ends within the motor area. I know several goes to headlights and running lights and others connect to the harness coming from cab. By the way, I guess you can tell I am converting to 12v. Got the 12v conversion kit from VPW.

                        Wiring

When I re-wired my 53, I found the diagram in my shop manual to be of great help! If you don't have a shop manual for your truck, here is a link to your wiring diagram. http://www.powerwagonadvertiser.com/...trical+diagram
