When I removed my front hubs I was surprised to find I was missing an axle. Took the 3rd member out to inspect for damage and found the ring gear attached to a non standard carrier. To me it looks like (by comparing internet pics) a Detroit Locker. Reading and researching it seems there was a company called All-Trac that made a locking diff for the WM-300. It makes sense that what I have is a locker as being in the front without lockout hubs it would have been impossible to steer so it is likely an axle was either removed or broke. Can anybody tell me what this is? And more importantly, can I put it in the rear?

Locking Diff?

It does appear to be a locking Diff.
Definitely not the original carrier.
The front and rear differentials will interchange.
Have you checked the rear?
Jack up both rear wheels and see if they turn the same direction.
If they do then there is a locker in there also, If one goes one way and the other the other way,
Then it is a open Diff.
