How many different carburetors were used in the WDX-WM300 trucks from 1946 to 1968? Were there three? The early round square top, then the round top [Ball & Ball or Carter?], then....? What was used on the 251's? Or were there more?

How many distinctly different carburetors were used in that truck series?

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

Clint's carburator page has a good rundown. Check this link: http://t137.com/ClintDixon/carburetors.htm

If you go by Carter model number, there were nine:

      1) ET1
      2) ET2
      3) ET4
      4) E7F1
      5) E7S1
      6) E7T1
      7) E7T2
      8) BBS-3121-S
      9) BBS-3277-S

If you go by physical appearance, or changes where most parts and gaskets are completely different and will not interchange to either those before and/or to those after, there were four:

      1) ET1, ET2, ET4 - commonly referred to as the "Early Square Top" - distinguishing characteristics: Square mounting flange on top for the air cleaner horn with 4 screw holes, integral fuel filter, integral velocity governor, large float and float bowl, vacuum accelerator pump.

      2) E7F1, E7S1 - commonly referred to as the "Late Square Top" - distinguishing characteristics: Square mounting flange on top for the air cleaner horn with 4 screw holes, divorced fuel filter, integral velocity governor, small float and float bowl, vacuum accelerator pump.

      3) E7T1, E7T2 - commonly referred to as the "Round Top" - distinguishing characteristics: Round mounting flange on top for the air cleaner with a clamp style of attachment, divorced fuel filter, no governor (sat on top of a separate sandwich governor when used), small float and float bowl, mechanical accelerator pump.

      4) BBS-3121-S, BBS-3277-S - distinguishing characteristics: Round mounting flange on top for the air cleaner with a clamp style of attachment, divorced fuel filter, no governor (sat on top of a separate sandwich governor when used), mechanical accelerator pump, overall shorter and wider appearance than earlier carburetors with more complex appearing external linkages for throttle, choke, and fast idle cam.
