Excellent advice. I overlooked the fire hazard in the event of a crash.

Pump mount
I found a place I thought would be protected, at least it's not full of mud. dirt/dust yes, covered with it? no. The fuel line comes acros under the frame to the passenger side. It takes a 90deg turn, I am planning to cut the tubing after the turn and cut it again at whatever the length of fuel pump & attached filter need. It's probably 12-18" gap. I am mounting the filter inside the C (?) cup of the frame next to the fuel line. It's protected from the drive shaft, umm, by the muffler/exhaust pipe. Is this a good idea? should I rig up a shield to protect the pump? The factory design runs the line here, would a pump be more at risk from exhaust system? I haven't measured the gap between exhaust and the frame, but it's probably 12"-15". It's not the least bit in the way to reach the pump, even for me.
I'm gonna work on it tomorrow. I scoped it all out and went looking for what I needed. Found my compact tubing cutter, 5/16" rubber fuel hose, but no wire of the right size. What I found didn't look like 14g. The instructions said to use 14g. It makes sense since it's like a 15' run to the firewall connections. I can add the relay when I get it on Mon or Tue. Off I went to the hardware store. Bought wire, extra hose clamp, a longer bolt to mount the fuel pump bracket. The original is fine but with lack of finger dexterity, a longer one will make putting the lock washer and nut on the bolt so much easier.
I have crimp connectors and lots of tape. That's about it. Should the relay be in any particular place? Should I add an inline fuseholder like radios have or had?
Just had a brilliant idea...why not bring the wires into the cab and use fuse box for source. Oh, frame is ground but pump has 2 wires, guess I should attach the ground wire somewhere. I'll find a place in the dashboard/cab.
Thanks again for all the great advice. I'd be more lost without this site than I am with it, that's for sure.

The relay can be mounted anywhere, but it must be run from a fuse or a breaker and from a wire source that will not remain "hot" in the event of a shut-off or accident.
From faulty memory I'm thinking that I ran the last one from the keyed side of the coil, ballast resistor, but I'm not 100% sure if that is how I did it.
If the motor dies or power fails, the pump is also shut-off and it requires another "key start" to re-energize the circuit.
The ford switch mentioned may be a mercury switch and if so, may cause issues when off road, you might be better off finding a wiring diagram for a Jeep and seeing how Jeep does it, so that pump reliability is not an issue.
