  • 73 crewcab utiline & 2 questions

check out this beauty on ebay. Item# 250390796697.
What is the proper name of the (tar paper ish) piece between the frame rail and motor that keeps water and mud from splashing up into engine compartment?
Are the window openings on a 75 crew cab the same front and back? I just picked up some nos, made in USA, stainless steel, window ventshields and wonder if I could put them on all 4 windows.

That truck is a little rough. If you buy it and beat it, it would be perfect...
I'd hate to really pull up all the floor carpeting to see what is not there anymore ;o(

I'm leaning towards a utiline bed on my 75 crew. that e bay one is the first I've seen, looks kinda cool. Anyone have a picture of 70's crew with 6.5 ute bed. If Ron has not found a 6.5' sweptline bed yet, utiline may be the way to go. I have a set of tires just like the ones in the ebay pict. They look great on that truck, but I'd worry that the size and weight of those tires would eat up my dana 44 front .

You want a bed like this?

And if things don't go better for me, there might be a few prized parts that you might be interested in... :o(

          maybe, talk to Ron

I don't know how much of a hassle it is to go utiline. but if 6.5 swepts are hard to find, I love my utes they look like brutes. Is there a spare tire notch hidden behind the other part in that picture

              Pieter,

Was that photo taken inside your garage? Sorry I couldn't resist. My barn was getting look like your garage till last weekend when I pulled a backhoe out just to make room. That was a day long project by itself. Should I clean a spot in my barn for you to work your project truck? Let me know what year your work truck is and I'll see if I have a FSM for it. Just show me your library card and I'll let you sign it out ;o)

Very funny! You have seen my garage, this would be spacious for me.
If I was working on my project truck, I'd make the room. Usually just bring things out while I work and then toss them back in at the end of the day. Not the most ideal, but you do what you have to. I worked on a truck in a single car garage and that was a challenge!

I have no money to work on the project truck either :o( Mostly why I haven't working on it since the fall of 2005. I have a choice between paying my bills to survive or buy parts. I guess the paying bills to survive part always wins. I have time because I have no work, but not having work means I have no income.

If things don't change, I may have to consider selling off all my parts. I've got a couple people who are waiting for that day, but they will have to wait longer. If that day comes, I will be really bummed :o(

                Oh, work truck is a 1991 1-ton with a 360.

                Pieter

on a side note, I passed the written tests for my Class A CDL with air brake endorsement... Not to get my physical for health card and take the road test...

The Crews with the ute beds and the crews with the sweptline beds have slightly different rear frame rails. The utes frame tails are bobbed off slightly shorter than the sweptline.I found this out when I put a Sweptline on my crew. Now that it is a clubcab this may lead to a flatbed instead of one of the
8' Swepts I have on hand. One of the things that end up happening is the stock bumper won't bolt on as it sits to close to the frame for the bed sides to clear the cutouts on the bumpers step surface.
