  • Goosenecks and Utility beds

I have located a low side Stahl utility bed for the w200 project.I hadn't really planned on this but it is already on a dodge and is in good shape and I really need a tool truck since I retired(sort of) the W300.This w200 is set up with a gooseneck hitch, unde floor plate with flipsy doodle ball mechanism. The bed wall height is the same as the stock bed but naturally wider to give the box sides depth. Will this setup give clearance problems with a gooseneck trailer?

Maybe/maybe not. Measure from the ball to the furthermost portion of the bed (the corner) at the bed height. This distance plus whatever safety margin is needed will be the minimum tongue (gooseneck) lenght usuable. Then it depends on the trailor design, some will be long enough some not.

I would think if you get the trailer axles flipped and run the gn hitch extended all the way down you shouldn't have any clearance issues at all. Every gn neck I have seen is 8' unless special order. Hope this helps...
