  • truck will sometimes stall or want to

my power wagon will want to stall sometimes or feel like it wants to once in a while. when i step on the gas pedal it will hesitate also. i replaced the fuel filter and it seems to have gotten better. but it still hesitates once in a while when i drive it. can a fuel pump be to blame? i hear that once a fuel pump goes that it just goes. there is really no precursor to it going. is this true.

Hmmmm.. My wagon also hesitates when I really jump on the gas. Feels to me more like the transmission is slipping around looking for the right gear or something like that. Only reason I say that is that I just replaced my fuel filter as well and ran some cleaner through it and I still run into that issue. I know that probably doesn't help very much but I think it may be safe to rule out the fuel filter. Let me know if you make any headway on this one.

... Could it possibly be a vacuum leak?

well i did check for that kind of half asses. i srayed starter fluid around the base of the carb. and nothing. i was thinking that it was the pump, filter, or plugs. im going to replace the plugs in the truck and see if that works. then the pump. i want an electric pump anyways. i was thinking the timing was off? idk. i can live with it for now. just annoying.

i also heard that it could be the thermostat? if it gets stuck open your engine thinks its still warm and somehow that will affect the performance.

ok well i have new info. i think this was the problem. i have yet to drive it but i did start it a few times and reved it u and no problem. smooth as a babies bottom. what i did was adjusted the air gap in the pick up coil under the distributor cap. its supposed to be .0008 inches. mine was to far apart i could tell that from just looking at it. so i think this may have been the problem or at least part of the problem.

          any disagreements?

Take it for a drive and find out.. Putting a load on the engine can change the situation.

But that seems very possible to me
