Did Mister Rogers want too much money so Chrysler went with Barney! Don't get me wrong I loved Barney, but I didn't see any Banks using Goober as their spokesman or Maybelline using Aunt Bea.
At the time Don Knotts was at the top of his game. Were their better choices maybe but I remember the ads and they worked. Like Norm said it was way better than the drug induced ads they are running now. "My tank is full, my name is RAM". They're Dodge trucks for crying out loud so use the history to sell trucks. Sorry to say but chevy has always had a better ad firm, remember "Like a rock". It was catchy and played well. Actually I was pulling your chain about the Dude stripe but a guy in our town ordered a 1970 two wheel drive CC with an 8 ft bed. It was dark maroon and he had the Dude strip painted on in white. It took some real room to turn around but it was cool especially with his "COOT" ATV in the bed. If I remember right it was a383 with an automatic too. BIG truck

Yep a black Dude Stripe on a Yellow Crew, with a black roof!
      I drive a DODGE, not a ram!

      Thanks,

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but,
I just thought I would mention that I really like W A Watson II's signature
        "I drive a DODGE not a RAM"
Since I have a Dodge and a Ram I will have to say that I drive a "DODGE RAM"

DB69, You own a 2010 ram? Sorry to hear about that.
          I drive a DODGE, not a ram!

No I have no interest in anything new especially now.
My trucks are engineered by the Chrysler Corporation
                I have an 83 D150 utiline bed lwb with a 318 with a 2 barrel holley
and also a 1991 D150 with only 61,288 miles on it and am only the second owner
The reason I said I own a Dodge Ram is that both of my Dodge Trucks are Rams
I don't like the idea of the trucks being "just" a Ram. all of them are a DODGE truck
