  • condenser on speedo housing

I am wrapping up a rewire of my '75 wagon, and have one last connection that I can’t find in my schematic or documented anywhere else.

It appears to be a condenser on the backside of the gear housing for the speedometer housing in the dash cluster.

Anyone know what I need to connect this to?

    Thanks guys!

    condenser

    Robert,

The condenser connects to one of the slots that the IVR (instrument voltage regulator) connects to. The instruments run on five volts to give steady, accurate readings. I do not remember which of the three slots it connects to, and my wiring diagrams are at home. Someone here will chime in soon, I trust.

From what I see on the schematic from the factory service book the slots on the back of the instrument cluster marked as ground, 12 & 5 volt are already populated by what I assume you are referring to as the Instrument Voltage Regulator.

When you look closely at the spades on the IVR and the spade on the condenser attached to the speedo housing they are all male.

In order for the spade on the top of the IVR to ground the case and the slot marked ground I attached a female spade to chassis ground.

If I tried to attach a live wire to the IVR spade & the condenser on the speedo I think I would have a short.

Link to what the schematic shows regarding the dash cluster:
