  • ClubCab Rear Seats

    I picked up an nice 77' ClubCab. Unfortunately it doesn't have rear seats.

    As memory serves, they only came with "jump" seats and they were not too impressive. But, they would be adequate for the occasional trip with the kids.

    I've run across a couple forums that mention a bench in the rear of 70's ClubCabs. That doesn't seem right to me; I can't see how there is room. Did they indeed come with an optional bench?

    Regardless, I'm having trouble finding even jump seats in the local area. Has anyone come up with a viable alternative?

    I've been considering building a frame, and / or mounting some sort of boat seat.

    Has anyone sucessfully tried a jump seat from another make / model of vehicle?

    Side facing jumps is all I've ever known. Some have taken the rear bench out of a 90's Ford and made them work. There are some companies that offer custom seats but for custom prices too.

      welcome! have a seat.

      I've only seen those side facing jump seats that fold up. I'm not even sure that every club cab had them, seems some were sans rear seats.

      When doing modifications concerning seating (especially for children), safety & liability must take precedent.

        Absolutely! Believe it or not, the most common local suggestion I've had is "throw a milk crate back there". My kids are beyond car seats, but I still want them to be safe.

        I'd like to keep it original. My first choice is to go back to the factory seats. I'm looking for them in Eastern WA / Northern ID.

        But, it's a user. It's not any good sitting in the driveway. If I can't find correct to period dodge seats, I'm wondering if something from a newer ClubCab will fit back there. Or, how about 70's era jump seats from a ford SuperCab? They were made better, but I don't know how well they will fit. Has anyone tried an alternative seat?

        I have found "custom" made seats, but they're more than I paid for the truck.

        As a last resort ... My thought on a boat seat was to get one of those nice folding vinyl upolstered seats with a back. They come in all colors and are about the right size. Depending on construction, I may just have to use them for the cushions. Maybe build some kind of mounting platform made out of angle iron.

        I found the bolt plates for the seat belts under the cab, though it's a mystery how they would have routed them through the interior panels. I'm guessing it came from the factory without them.

          If the Ford thing doesn't pan out, check out a Nissan King Cabs. They also had side jump seats.

              I sure would like to have them. Copan, OK is a bit further than I'd care to drive. I'm hoping for a local set.

                  I do keep my eyes open. I'm guessing my search would be more pragmatic if I'd win the lottery first.

                    I have a pair out of a '75. They are black and in good shape. I think there were two different kinds of jump seats. The pair in my 76 have a backrest that is attached kind of like a bucket seat and the pair out of the 75 dont have a backrest. They would have had a backrest that was attached directly to the inside of the cab (which i dont think i have, but i will double check). As far as i know all of the rear jump seats were an option. Anyways, i would sell the pair out of the '75 for $30 plus shipping if you are interested.

                      I called every salvage within a reasonable distance and got a "no we don't have them" from every one. I think the problem is that they don't know what they have and/or are too lazy/busy to look. It wouldn't seem likely they wouldn't know what a ClubCab jump seat is, but with all the kids they hire, who knows.

                      Anyway, I decided to go look for myself. One of those pull-it-yourself places. Even when I took them to the counter to pay, they didn't have a clue what they were. I had to describe how they were mounted and the way they worked. They thought I was mistaken and that it was an arm rest or console cover. Whew!

                      Just about the time the commitee decided they were worthless and I should just take them, the manager decided they were worth something.

                      I got two sets for 20.00. Two different frame designs. Both are servicable; one in very good condition.

                      Mopar sure let us down on these. I looked at jump seats in many makes over a 40 year span. By far, this was the worst design. I decided to go with them, because they would bolt right in and were original.

                      I looked at four club cabs and saw ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION THEY HAD EVER HAD SEAT BELTS. Is that true? Any idea where that leaves me for legal passenger use?

                        They had provisions for belts, not sure what year they started though. My '78 had them, my '92 has them, they are just retractable lap belts. Back when I first bought it I called the State Police and asked if it was legal for an infant car seat. They said if it had a belt it was legal...

                        Guess you could buy a racing belt and bolt it to the floor with support/backing.

                          The four I looked at were mid 70s - mid 80's. I don't know them well enough yet to be certain when so many parts are missing. Two (labled 71' and 76') had what's left of a dash like my 77'. I got my seats from those. The other two like my 84'. The molding in the back appeared to accomodate the same design. They had years written on them, but all couldn't have been correct as one was labled as a 71'. If I'm not mistaken, that would have been the previous body series. Maybe it was a 72 made in 71? I'm not sure how VIN numbers reflect next years model. They all had threaded plates that could be seen from under the cab, but no sign of belts or where belts had been on the inside. It must have been another option.

                          Mine has the knockouts in the floor padding; they have never been removed. Interestingly, it has knockouts for both seat frame designs. The distance between the bolts varies by about 2". I don't know if it was a transition year or they just had to different manufacturers of jump seats.

                          Most of the part stores have aftermarket seat belts for a fair price. The factory belt thread holes are behind the interior panel. That should be the only obstacle.

                            I have a set of jump seats from my 77 Adventurer. I think I also have the lap belt that they came with. I have no real use for them I have been thinking about selling them off.

                              I got them installed today. I used an aftermarket belt from NAPA that came with bolts that fit right into the factory threaded plates.

                              The tedious part was removing the interior panels to install the padded back / headrest. I suppose it depends on how tall you are.

                              It's servicable. The kids are happy.

                              It'll get us camping.
