I have just today discovered that the plastic gas tank on my 77 W-200 has two cracks in it. One is about 4" long and has not opened up. The other is about 6" long and has opened up about 1/8". The cracks are on the top side and in the area where the metal strap rides that holds the tank in place. This tank is rather long and has a total of three metal straps holding it in place.
I have been searching for about an hour on the internet looking for a new OE style replacement tank or a good way to repair this one. There don't seem to be any new ones available. Does anyone know if this is indeed the case? I have found a good deal of information about repairing the plastic tank. A common thread seems to be that the repair fails after a year or two.
Does anyone have experience with repairing their plastic tank? If so how did you do it and how well has it held up?
I would prefer to buy a new but may have to repair or replace with a used one.
