This is kind of long, so I'll try to write it up in a simple manner.
No fuel to carb with manual pump. Since I had 'good' used electric pump, I thought it would be a good time to make the switch.
Hooked up the electric pump, same problem. I put a gas can under the pump, sucked out of it and had great pressure to the carb.
I thought ok, plugged tank filter.
Pulled the unit out of the tank and blew backwards into the line with the filter on and it seemed to be plenty open enough...it did seem to be the factory filter.
I pulled the tank filter off the line, just to doublecheck, left it off and installed the unit in the tank, hit the key and still no pressure to the carb. I mean nothing coming out of the line at the carb.
The only thing I can come up with is that the pump may be just weak enough not to pull from the truck tank, but good enough to pull from the can right under it, but it had GREAT pressure from the can. I can't imagine the extra travel distance to the truck tank would make that much difference.
One good thing, I found out why I suddenly had a dead fuel gauge. I thought the sender unit may have gone bad, but when I pulled the float off the hanger, it was full of gas! I was a bit surprised to see a brass float in there. I thought they may have gone to plastic by that time...guess not.
Your thoughts??
Thanks!
Craig
P.S. I left the key on for about 20 seconds, which should have been plenty of time to pump the fuel from the tank to the carb.
