So can i swap the motors or what. Its seems there are more motors out of the jeeps than anywhere else. i found one 318 out of dodge van but that was it. if any body knows what kinda motor swap i can do without getting rid of my 4 sp that would be very helpfull. i know the EFI is different but??? i dont mind swappin ecm.

you would hafta swap more than the the ECM [real name is PCM] your 1990 is TBI injected and 1993 is MPI injected / two completely incompatible fuel systems / your 1990 uses the OLD style LA small block [1964 to 1990] and the 1993 uses the new style MAG motor [1992 to 2001] you will run into all kinds of problems but all of them can be over come with money / put it this way its NOT a bolt in swap

I just did a swap on my 91 318 efi and put in a 360 with a carb. Not to bad changed fuel pump to mech, new distrubutor, coil, regulator. The regular belts and hoses. If you are switching yours and keeping the 4 speed, make sure your crank will accept the pilot bushing. I thing around 1994 ?? they made two type of cranks auto and 4 speed types. good luck.

I put a MPFI 5.2/5.9 LA/Magnum b@$t@rd child into my 90 Jeep Wrangler that came with a 4 banger. It was quite an extensive project and took quite a bit of money even with the known running 5.2 I had out of my 68 Dart. The wiring wasnt too difficult to deal with, good thing because I am putting a 97 Magnum 5.9 into my 59 Power Wagon. You will need a new fuel pump, the entire wiring from the engine along with the PCM and all sensors.

All cranks are able to accept a pilot bearing, Chrysler makes a pilot bearing adapter that is quite cheap that fits into the torque converter snout relief in the crank. This is true from the LA through the Magnum engines, both V6's and 8's.
Something to keep in mind, the 5.2 and the 5.9 flywheels/torque converters cannot be interchanged with one another. The 5.2 is internally balanced (has enough crank weight to balance the engine) while the 5.9 is externally balanced (not enough crank weights to balance, uses flywheel/torque converter to help balance) and therefore cannot be interchanged.

And all this time I was under the impression that the crank had to be drilled / finished to accept a pilot bearing. I.E. Big block forged crank can be mated to a manual and cast crank could not.
