  • I just bought a crew cab!

    First purchase on ebay.
Might be my last if my wife finds out!
1975 W200. Dana 60 up front, 4.10s and a 727. Two barrel 318 and the full time 203. Ex Air Force truck that was put into fire service in Minnesota. Guy I bought it from was going to put a 12 valve in it, but then they had a kid and he kind of ran out of free time.

Not going anywhere in this blizzard for a while, but I'm looking forward to driving it back from Sioux Falls.

And no, I didn't buy it without my wife's blessing. Even if I could have hidden it in the flock.

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?

Given the color, it won't be hard to find it in the parking lot.

                Thanks, Tom!

                That's it!
My wife assured me that it won't stay that color for long. She's been trying to label the color, and her choices were not flattering. Lime green sounds nicer, though.

I am not sure what the plan is yet. The fact that it's a driver makes it kind of tough to make any major changes, such as, say, a 12 valve. Kinda tough convincing my wife, anyway! But I know that newer truck seats (and belts) are on the list. And power steering, too.

It looks like a good, sound truck.

By belts, you mean seat belts?

You are courageous. I have really never purchased anything on ebay, and I would be terrified to buy a vehicle there. I say that because of the many times I have driven to look at vehicles and discover they were terribly misrepresented. Enormously worse than described.

                  How did all that go?

                    Went okay.

Yes, seat belts with shoulder straps.

I called him up and asked a lot of questions. The pictures look good, and he didn't write anything flashy. Mileage seems low (40K), so it might have rolled over, but I can't imagine that the AF and the FD put a lot of miles on their trucks. It's an older truck that runs, stops, and is licensed.
I will take plenty of tools for the return trip, but he used it for his work commute on and off, so it should be okay. Forecast calls for warmer weather this weekend.
If it's not what I expected, well, there's always the 12 valve!

how far do you have to drive it....

                        to get it home?

I test drove an almost identical one last Fall in OKC.... it worked fine but I didn't get it. Last month a guy on Ramchargercentral bought it, flew to OKC & attempted to drive it back towards Indiana/Ohio I think. He made it several hundred miles before he lost all propulsion. Left the truck in a parking lot, took an 80 mile cab ride to St. Louis then flew home, got a trailer & came back to OKC..... lotta effort to get her home. Found stripped splines on the output shaft goin into t-case.

I hope your trip is uneventful.

                          It's a six hour drive.

But it's all in-state. Well, except for the short leg to Sioux Falls. I have a couple places I can stop on the way for a break or for parts, if I need to. Plus, my wife will be along in the warm car, so we'll have most of the bases covered, I think. As long as the weather agrees, we should be okay.
                          Thanks for asking.
