Fuel tank sending unit

I am in need of a new fuel level sender for my 76 W200 and the only place i can find one is on those old Dodge NOS sites for $150. I have the frame mounted plastic tank and am wondering if there is a part available that will work with minimal mods and money. Anyone done this and made something work? All thoughts qare appreciated.

Oh ya. I have checked every online and terrestrial site that sells parts and am currently waiting for a reply from Right Stuff Detailing to see if they have anything.There are a few places that sell NOS stuff for 150-200 bucks but that is a bit rich for me for a sending unit no matter how rare they are. Naturally even those parts are in The States so you can add another 150 bucks to that price for shipping, taxes and brokerage fees. At least we are at par at the moment. I just can't escape the feeling that there is one sitting on a shelf at some old parts store somewhere nearby that will sell it to me cheap to get rid of it. Might have to pull out the yellow pages and start dialling.

I cant remember the name of the place but there is a company in Barberton, Ohio that rebuilds the units. I wonder if a unit from a newer truck like my '85 would fit.

Trying NAPA

Don't trust the online parts locators for Napa or any of the other sources out there. Go to stores and find the old guy that knows how to look in the books and find the numbers. A lot of the stuff they have available has never been loaded into the computer system. I've never looked for the fuel sensor, but I've bought a lot stuff that isn't listed online.

I just had a huge run-around with the NAPA online program. I was looking for a price and the website redirected me 5 times to the start page. I gave up and sent them a very unpleasant e-mail. Call a store directly,,always best.

I hear ya. Napa is not the best site out there. I am new to the buying stuff online thing and so far am pretty impressed with the Summit Racing website. Lots of info helps the decision process. My local Napa guys couldn't come up with a listing for the sender and couldnt really be bothered to look very hard so am calling around to the little towns nearby and asking to speak to the oldest guy there. Just got in touch with one of those old parts guys today. Fingers crossed!

This looks like an option if i can't get a new part. I wonder what the shipping on this would be. Mabe I will give them a call tomorrow. Thanks!
