Im thinking about getting a 4 barrell intake with a thermoquad carb from craigslist, it is from a 83 ramcharger with a 360. Will this fit on my 76 W100 with a 318? Is the thermoquad a good carb? He wants $40.00, I think that is a good price. Thanks.

Intake and thermoquad carb?

It will fit and you can't beat the price. The Thermoquad is a great carb, but if a guy doesn't know what he's doing with it, it can be pretty intimidating. Btw, I'm not saying I was ever very good with them either. There's a great article in 1 of the recent Mopar magagzine's that I get, discussing them in great detail. It's either Mopar Muscle{ most likely} or Mopar action. There will probably be a slight size difference of runner size between the intake and the heads, but not likely something that you'll be able to notice. Doug

I had a set up like that on my 78 W250 back in the day. I topped with a factory air cleaner that had a trap door on the bottom which was vacuum operated. Punch that throttle and you heard a rush of air sucking into those HUGE secondaries. Now this was fun back in the day but mileage went down just as fast. Depending on how long I put my foot in the floor I could almost watch the gas gauge needle move. Keep your foot out of it and you can get close to what you have now. Yeah that's like putting a piece of candy in front of a kid and saying don't eat that. The Thermoquads are great carbs but as Doug said they can give you headaches. The bowls are basically plastic resin and tend to warp. These are not easy to find if memory serves. Also you will have way more carb than you need on a 318. Not trying to rain on your parade just stating facts. A 318 in good condition needs no more than 400-450 cfm, A T-Quad is probably in the 650-750 range, just a guess. If your heart is set on a 4 barrel try an Edelbrock which are plentiful on ebay. The key is matching the jets to the engine. A good aftermarket manifold will probably flow better too. Stay with a dual plane low rpm manifold for good low end grunt.

When I was looking for a 4bbl for my 77 Adventurer (400 cid) I spent a lot of time researching the Carter Thermo Quad. In my opinion T-Q’s for a good chunk of the 70’s were the best daily driver carbs hands down. Reasonable fuel consumption if you have the willpower to stay out of the secondary’s and a well metered secondary kick in the tail when your willpower fails.
Below are a bunch of sites that I book marked. At one time there was a T-Q guru on line but it appears that he “Demon - Sizzler” has removed his web site and is no longer suppling parts and services on line.

The bottom line is, just adding a 4bb & intake to a engine that has a cam & heads designed to run on a 2bbl will likely deliver lack luster performance gains.

It is not recommended to attempt to remove the warp by flat sanding. This will only cause moving parts to become misaligned. Also the resin bowl section tends to crack for which I have found no repair for.
