727 lockup converter

I know Dodge started to put lockup converters in the 727 in 1978, my question is how can I tell without taking tranny out to see the spline on the shaft? Vin number? Number on the tranny?

Hmmmmm.... I think if I was confronted with that need I might ask either a local transmission shop or a large salvage yard.

I am not certain but am inclined to say vehicles built on/after Jan 1, 1978 would have the lock-up.

Thankyou, Looks like the lockup trannys are hard to find and Dodge mostly put them in two wheel drive trucks. Also, the lockup tranny does not help mpg's that much at all. So I guess I will just have my 727 rebuilt.

Didn't offer them in the diesel until 1994. Operated off a computer then although some have modified with a switch or hydraulics.
