  • Found a cab finally...

I finally found a good cab and doghouse locally for my M880 at a decent price ($350). Its an ex-fire truck which I guess explains the condition.

The truck is complete sans bed and runs rough, probably due to old gas. I've not decided whether to use this one as a base and swap the good stuff from my truck over or vice-versa.

I've heard that there is a market for the axles for folks building rock crawlers. I figure I'll part out what's left. Anybody have any idea on the demand for axles, transfer case etc.? Even if I can't sell what's left I'm tickled to get a rust free cab finally!

It would be a hard call but my two cents would be if the fire truck chassis is low miles and the same gearing go for it rather than all the work swapping cabs. I can't say what your extra parts would be worth but I'm sure there is a market for them. Glad you got what you need.

I was contemplating the same thing. Haven't gone to pick it up yet. I can't remember the mileage. I do recall that what ever was used on the bed had been welded/torched to/from the frame. Will have to see. Plus the dash is shot. Must have sat in the sun for a while. No title for now, just a bill of sale.

You'll probably have to deal with the fire house electricians that have their way with wiring under the dash. We had a 74 mini pumper that took my son all day to sort out. Wires were melted together and run all over the place. It's a wonder it never burned to the ground. Hope it works out for you.
