  • New Owner - Driveline Slop

    1979 W200 Clubcab Adventurer SE - Nice truck. Some tinkering by the PO leaves me with a Edelbrock Performer and mystery Holley 4bbl on the 360. Automatic trans. The carb linkage is terrible and needs work. Part of the problem is the downshift rod does not engage properly making it upshift at either high RPM or under no throttle. Let off the throttle and the shift is very hard. It seems there is a fair amount of slop in the driveline. Off throttle to on throttle is obvious and it bangs when I let off the gas to let the trans shift.

    I will address the linkage issue, but am looking for advice in driveline slop. How much is too much? Is it in the tranfer case? The u-joints and drivelines seem fine. The front and rear axles have not been looked at yet.

    I am new here and tend to go on too long on forums, so...

      l,d check the slip yoke splines in the D-shaft

        I will have to do ujoints, so will check the splines
