All other Jeeps (there is no longer a Cherokee) including Liberty, Grand and Commander use the Full Time cases and have since 1996, including the 242, 245 and 247 as well as the new Freedom Drive I & II units. Grands have not used the 242 since 2005.
The 242 is also found in Dodge Durango and Dakota.
There is no 242 "Part Time" case, they are all Full Time cases with a part time option, that's why they are preferred by many, they give you the option.
You can still get the 241 HD and 271 in full sized Dodge Rams, but with the exception of 3500 and up Rams, it's days appear to be numbered.
Since Ford and GM buy cases from the former Dodge Division known as New Process, you can expect them to follow, as GM and Ford do not make their own cases and as of 2009, only Dodge will offer a truck with a live front axle.
Ford and GM will have abandon live axles in favor of IFS by 2009.
Of course by 2009 there may no longer be Dodge, Ford or GM, so that is up in the air....

fulltime seems sluggish
my m884 fulltime seems sluggish compared to my parttime trucks. not sure if sluggish is the right term, perhaps rolling resistance is more appropriate. I can't make an apples to apples comparison because my parttime trucks are 4 speed and the fulltime is an automatic. It almost feels like the parking brake is still partially engaged. I have to depress the accelerator fairly hard to get her going. its not the tires, tall skinny 235 85 r16 brand new. on flat level ground when put in Drive she will sit there and not creep forward. is this normal?

Last month when I took my Astrovan to one of those "quicky" oil change/car wash places they RECOMMENDED that I change mine for their "special" price of $149.99 since my fluid wasn't quite the same color as their little color swatch. They also wanted $89.99 to flush my braking system. I declined on both accounts.Used a vacuum pump and flushed the master cylinder/brakes myself for the cost of a quart DOT 3 ($2.99)..Anyways to answer your question expect to pay anywhere from $50-$70 on up to more than twice that depending on how greedy the establishment is.Originally posted by 74w300uteline View Postnever done under my ownership. what would be a ballpark price to have these procedures done.

ive heard nothing but bad things about aamco. a friend of my dads had a 9's the 95 body style with the v10 i belive but he took it there and he was always getting screwed around. best place to get a tranny done is to try and find a small one or two guy tranny shop. we had our 727 rebuilt with a HD rebuild kit and new tourque converter all together we paid like 500-550. we did the removel and put it back in. the tranny works great. alot of places around here charge 1000.00 just for the rebuild. or if there cheap they dont work. this was a 1 man shop trying to make his buisness better!

A place that works on volume and performs alot a various services might not have the knowhow to do a band adjustment properly, whereas a place that specializes in transmission work should.But there is no guarantee! For starters you could do it yourself. Got a service manual?Torque wrench?Purchase all the supplies and try it.If it goes well,you'll be proud of yourself.If its about the same you'll be out less money than if they did it. yea ours are all married units we have 3 my dad collects them every chance he gets. i havent seen a divorced 205 yet. the only tcases ive seen that are divorced are the one in my samurai, and old IH one we have and one in an old military keiser jeep truck. i think most 205's that came in gm's were married im figuring dodge too. anyone kno what had divorced 205's?Originally posted by 712edf View PostI figured that. GM went to the married case in the mid 60s, and yes all the 205s that they used were married. Dodge used divorced transfer cases until the married 203 ,introduced in the 74 ramcharger/trailduster 75 powerwagon..The 205 case was introduced as a divorced unit in Dodges in 1969 and was used thru 1974. how come every once in a while you see a 205 married to a th400 if they came behind the 4spd? my dads 75 blazer was a 4speed so i supose it came with the 205 but it has a 400 mated to a 205 now this was way before i was born so idk lol 79-early to mid eightys i was born in 88 so i was done before me lol
