    M884 all ready to go; inspected, insured, registered, front bearings greased.
    When and why do I use the floor shift lever. What driving conditions are appropriate for each shifter choice?

    Well when you are rolling along in HI and it looks slippery pull it back into HI LOC. If it gets nasty put it LO or for crawling over things. IF it REALLY gets nasty then pull into LO LOC and drive over whatever is in your way. Full time is the best in my book. Of course Miss Eudora has the best tires right now and will follow the 884 about anywhere. Sounds like you'll get your chance to try things out in the VT mud after the rain they got or will continue to receive. Take your rain gear.

      that seems to simple, don't matter now

      my neighbor backed out he was going to drive the m884 to VT. His wife probably didnt want him to get infected with powerwagonitis. darn shame cause i dont want to beat the snot out of miss Eudora but I was willing to get loose with the m884. also planned on loading m884 with slate from local VT Quarries.

        BASIC fulltime 4wd facts to keep in mind:

        HI or LO is NOT LOCKED, so the differential inside the t-case is worked, you won't bind when turning

        HI-LOC or LO-LOC, NO Differential action, simply locked together, you will bind when turning so Don't Lock unless you're in a low-traction situation (mud, sand, snow, very wet road, etc.).

        Hi or Hi-Loc are both direct drive, no gear reduction within the t-case

        Lo or Lo-Loc are 2:1 gear reduction, VERY low range, for heavy pulling or rock crawling or off-roading. Keeps wheel spin to a minimum. Max speed about 30mph.

        Normal driving = Hi
        if you come to a slick or muddy or snowy spot on the road, you can usually just drive right thru. In serious conditions, you can use LOC.

        At any time up to about 50mph, you can shift on the fly from Hi to Hi Loc and back. You must be stopped to shift into LO range, and the trans in NEUTRAL, it don't like to shift in PARK, ok? :)

          If you should ever have to drive the vehicle in a emergency situation with one of the drive shafts removed it will only drive in one of the Loc positions. Also if the transfer case is in Neutral the vehicle will still roll even if the transmission is in Park.

            Make sure to use 10W30 in that great NP203. Otherwise it may feel like it's in LOC all the time!

              Good Info.

              Answered my questions without asking. Awesome!!!

              What's with the 10w-30 trick? Is'nt 90w more common? I'm assuming less viscosity would amount to less friction.
