  • Transmission issues: Is it time to rebuild?

When I accelerate a bit, the stick jumps back and forth with the torque. What do the experts think?

Just going with your verbal description, it is hard to know. Not being smart with you here, but I don't know what a bit means, and I am not sure where to go with jumps back and forth.

Has the truck always done this?

Are you saying the shift lever is moving independently of the transmission assembly; within the transmission?

How much travel is evident at the shift knob during the jumping back and forth?

    Do noises accompany this motion?

Do you think it could result from a motor mount problem? Have you visually inspected the mounts?

Why is it that the inside of old truck cabs smell so good?
