My starter spins on my 57 W100 w/o engaging. What is the most likely problem. I'm sure something of this age can be repaired vs replaced.
As you can obviously see I'm not a wrench guy
The bendix in the nose of the starter is more than likely bad. Yes these can be repaired at a good auto electric shop. I had mine gone through this summer and it's fine. Have yours done rather than buy a rebuilt so you know what you're getting back.

x2. most cities of any size will have at least one good auto electric shop and you can have your alternator and starter rebuilt, and get back your old part. Same with radiators at local radiator shops. A good AE shop can convert 6 volt generators to 12 volt or rewind alternators to give more amps. It just takes some looking.
