  • 1960 W300. New to the zoo

    Hello every one. I've been a big fan of the PW for years and just bought the truck of my dreams. A 1960 W300. In an unfortunate twist of fate a week before shipping a hurricane hit the East Coast and put a tree across the cab. Now it's home the scope of the project is sinking in. Ouch. Anyone in the north west know where I can get a cab?

        Hi Steve. The cab and doors are beyond reasonable repair, drivers door may be fixable. All the glass was broken. I have my fingers crossed on the frame. On the bright side I have lots of good metal to repair a rusted donor cab. Thanks for the positive words and welcome Gordon.

          Welcome Bramble. I remember that truck when it was on my trailer. I hauled it out to Bob C from Ohio. How bad is the cab? Any pics? The W300 cabs are VERY hard to find. If the cab isn't to bad I have a 59 100/200 cab that could possibly be sectioned to repair yours? The 100-200 cabs have step well at the door where yours is a flat floor if I remember correctly. That was a nice truck in it's day. Let me know if I can help you out. I'm known for working on these trucks.

            Hello Ron. It sure looks good there. I bought it from Bob last year. I've been waiting for years to find one for sale. From the research I've done I think any late 59 to 60 cab will work. Mine has the internal step and peddles from the firewall. I sure could use some help though. Somehow I've got to get a cab up to the West coast of Canada.
            Any advice would be great. Thanks

              That's a crying shame. The 59 cab I have would be fine for your truck. Getting it to you is another story. The good news is there seem to be a lot of these Power Giants in the NW. I thought you had the flat floor cab like my 59 W300. I've got more personal experience with the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. Save what you can especially the stainless trim. The offer still stands for help.

                i agree with ron,save all that you can from her, they are out there , dont know your location but know of a few around here , one is about 30 miles from me . good luck on your project. steve

                  Thanks again Ron. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions when I start the tear down and rebuild. I think I'll wait till better weather though.

                    No problem that's what I'm here for. I never profess to be an expert just pass along practical experience. How far up in the Great White North are you located? It's always better to work in nice weather. I just got heat in my shop this winter so I can try to catch up on projects. A word to the wise not knowing if you've done a project like this but take pictures BEFORE you remove anything. LOTS of pictures, this may turn into a long term project and no matter how much you think you will remember you'll scratch your head more than once. Don't ask how I know this, revert back to the practical experience comment. Don't throw anything away until after your truck is done. Bag it and tag it. Again it's a shame this happened to such a great truck but it can come back. I've had worse. This one was burnt to a crisp hence the name Crispy Critter. It came out alright , yours can too.

                      Done a few minor projects but nothing of this scope. Looking forward to it though. My camera will be my most used tool I'm sure. I live half way up Vancouver Island on the West coast of Canada. I'd like to restore my PG to stock so I think I'll have some part searching to do. To start with I'm going to focus on dismantle and rust control. It's not bad now but this climate is hard on sheet metal.

                        You need to hook up with Marty McKenzie at McKenzie Barge in Vancouver I believe. He has PG knowledge and may have some leads on parts. He posts on Joe's page DodgePowerWagon.com as Marty.

                          Bramble! I Gave You The Wrong Number!!!

                          After I got off the phone with you I realized that $1250 didn't seem quite right. I got looking at my emails & the number I gave you is for a D300 that I've never seen. It may fit the bill for you...it's in Seattle if the guy still has it.

                            Thanks Ron for putting me in touch with Marty. Thanks Marty for the lead on the D300. After talking to him I figured you were thinking of a different truck. This one sounds good and is in road worthy condition. Has the oridginal stakeside as well. Just waiting for pictures but I'll probably go for it. Thanks again for your help.
