  • Where is the oil sump on a '57 315?

Did a trial fit and hung the '87 318 for my 57 TW in the frame. The 318 is a rear sump and is almost over the axle. It didn't have the original engine and I removed the hacked in 440 and it's pan was beat up so I don't have any reference. Does anyone know if the original 315 was a front sump?

    Thanks,

Oh boy....engine swaps are such a challenge..!!

      Oneton, thanks for the info...

I guess I'm going to look for alternate "Plan B"...! I pulled the pan off and it appears to be reversable. I reversed it to a front sump and it is much better but still very close to the pumpkin in one spot. I found a Melling sump pick up that appears to be long enough to work with a reversed pan, but I couldn't confirm the application or actual dimensions. If I shorten and remark the dip stick that should work.
Here is the e-bay link for the extended pick up. I would have expected a support for that long of a pick up tube.
