  • Dissapointed today

I went to look at the '64 W200 today. As I drove up, it looked good. Got out, looked in the interior, opened the hood, checked out the bed, slid underneath, and cranked her up.
Now the owner had just replaced the slave cyl., fuel lines, rubber break lines, exhaust and a few other things, but when I started it, it was missing pretty badly. I took it out and as I drove, it got worse. After about one mile, It wouldn't get much above 30 mph. Got it back and to tell the owner no thanks.
It could be different if I had the space and $ to tear into the engine, but right now I need a turnkey truck.
It's a NASA surplus tow truck with 61,500 mi. Guages all work, has the usual rust in the floor pans, rockers, and lower front fenders. No tailgate.
If anyone is looking for a decent repairable W200, contact me, and I'll put you in contact with the owner.
The truck was purchased surplus by the current owners father.
It's in southern middle Tenn. Near Lynchburg.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Any chance it just needed a tune up? If it's any consolation you're not alone when it comes to a deal like this and unfortunately you won't be the last. Hope the next one is the one you're looking for.

Ron, the owner said he'd take a look at it and contact me if he finds it's something simple.
I did find one thing though. I'm a lot older than I used to be. Driving that thing without power breaks or steering was tougher than I remembered!

Well maybe it'll work out, I'd make sure it does run before making another trip. I talked to a guy who drove 15 hours to look at a "primo" Challenger only to find a POS. He was HOT to say the least at the lying seller and wanted to punch the guy out.

Yeah funny how that steering and brakes get harder. I went to bed one night feeling pretty good only to wake up and look at some old guy in the mirror. LOL That saying , you're only as old as you feel. Some days I feel like I'm a 102 and I'm only 56. I don't know for sure but I think it's a bit harder to put PS on a Sweptline. Power brakes should be a fairly bolt on deal. I'm partial to 68 Sweptlines myself.
